Week 14: Happy New Year!
1. Elephants
Happy New Year everyone! Great week in Thailand as usual. Here are some highlights:
- Having our smartphones is such a miracle! It really helps us to be able to pull up talks and scriptures and videos when we feel inspired to in lessons.
-We have 4 more people scheduled to get baptized this week! The Lord is preparing people to accept His message here in Chiang Mai so it makes it easy for us missionaries to go out and teach. Haha not that easy though - we still work really hard and I am always exhausted! Two of the people getting baptized this week are the parents of two people who got baptized a few weeks ago. It is amazing to see all of the ways this family has changed and grown closer to Jesus Christ! As they have followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, they have seen miracles in their lives and have found greater fulfillment. I will email more next week about the people we are teaching!
- Went and rode elephants today! It was fun. Elephants are really beautiful, intelligent animals and it was fun to learn more about them and experience a big part of Thai culture.
-RAIN! It rained for 2 days this week so I got to bike in the rain in a dress. One regret: not bringing a rain coat to Thailand. I have no idea why I didn't.
-Skyped my family! It was fun to talk with them for a while.
-Lots of good food as usual! I love going to the markets and trying new foods there.
I love Jesus Christ and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as a missionary for Him! Today marks the beginning of a new year, and as we prepare and plan for the new year, I have a quote that I want you to consider:
“Fill up your memory bank and your book of life with as many ‘I’m glad I did’ activities as you can possibly crowd into one lifetime,” Elder L. Tom Perry (1922–2015) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
While it is important to work hard and keep progressing, it is also important to have fun and enjoy the journey! I have been working hard and learning a lot here in Thailand. It is not easy, and some days I am just exhausted. But I have also had a lot of fun and I am really coming to love Thailand! So work hard, but enjoy your life! As the scriptures say, "men are that they might have joy!" One thing that makes me happy is reading our church magazine for adults, The Ensign. It is full of inspiring articles about the gospel and church members from around the world, and I enjoy reading it in my (limited) free time. If you need a lift, read this!
I love you all! 2018 is shaping up to be a great year! Sorry if I didn't have the chance to answer your email today, I am a little behind!
