Week 31: durian, sleep talking, baptism, rain, etc.

Sister น้ำ (nam, means water) being baptized!! Hellloooooo from บางนา (Bangna)!!  This was a great week! Highlights include.... Sister น้ำ (nam, means water) being baptized!! She is so awesome. After her baptism she gave a testimony about how she found the church and how she loved how everyone at church is a big family. She is so awesome!! I tried durian this week (for you dad) and it was gross  I apparently sleep talk in Thai, according to my companion.  Hit 7 months on the mission on Friday! Lots of rain. People in Thailand just stop functioning when it rains....here is an example of this in a phone call from this week...  "Hello did you read the Book of Mormon" "No sorry it is raining" What?? But that is Thailand for you.  Hope you all have a great week! Love you all! Sister Lahti ซิสเตอร์ลอห์ที I tried durian this week

Week 30: Week in review

1. Get out of the church!! Hello hello hello! Wow so much happens every single day here and I don't even know where to start so I guess I'll just make a list of a few miracles and cool things this week.  1. The prophet came to Thailand!! Wow this was such a cool opportunity! President Russell M Nelson and Elder Jeffery R Holland and their wives came and spoke to the largest gathering of saints in Thailand ever (and I got to be a part of this historical event - cool). It was such a special experience to be there and hear what they said. They talked a lot about the temple coming to Thailand and about the Savior! It was cool because all of the missionaries from Thailand came and I got to see all of my old companions and other friends, as well as members from Chiang Mai because people came from the entire country!! And some investigators came which was a cool experience for them.  2. We had some people who wanted to get baptized a few months ago who dropped off the

Week 29ish: สงกรานต์ (songkran)

3. สงกรานต์ Hey so it is pday again, the third one in the last week and a half. The pday schedule for this month is a little crazy - we have pday today because it is Thai new year which we celebrate with a giant water festival!! I currently have two water guns and a bunch of water balloons and my phone is in a plastic bag and a special protective case as I type this. Currently on the BTS, completely soaked and dripping wet, coming back from a day full of people throwing water at each other!! Can't express how fun สงกรานต์ is. Picture this: Bangkok. A really busy city and people everywhere. But now imagine everyone has water guns and buckets full of water and everyone is soaking each other. HUNDREDS of people. And everyone is wearing these super flashy Hawaiian shirts. Thailand is the BEST!! so today was pretty packed which is why I haven't answered a single email or really talked with anyone. It's okay though because next time I email on the 23rd I will get to tell

Week 28: It is raining but I don't need an umbrella.....

Image
.....because it is raining MIRACLES!! WOW life is so good right now!  But before I continue on with my email, I want to apologize for my emails being weird the last few weeks. They haven't been sending correctly so I am going to try to get back on track this week. If all works according to plan you should have two emails in your inbox this week. And sorry last week I didn't caption the photos and I had a random list of things I didn't have time to talk about at the bottom of the email that won't make any sense to you, so disregard. BACK TO THE MIRACLES! Okay so as you read in last weeks email I am still here in บางนา (Bangna) and I am with Sister Cabangil! Coming into this transfer I was a little nervous because I would be the senior companion but not that nervous because I know that, as Thomas S Monson loved to say, whom the Lord calls the Lord qualifies. And I testify to you all that is so true! I have seen so many miracles from the last week.  So on

Week 27: transfers...will I stay or will I go ft. บางนา IS AMAZING

Image
Hello sorry my email didn't send last week! I don't know what happened there but you should have 2 emails from me this week...lucky you!  As for transfers, Sister Ballif will be going to เชียงใหม่ (Chiang Mai, where I served before Bangna) and I will be staying here in บสงนา (Bangna) and Sister Cabangil will be my new companion! She is my น้อง (nong) from the MTC which means she is only 1 transfer behind me. She just finished her training and I am only on my 4th transfer and I am going to be senior companion which means I am supposed to the one who knows how to be a missionary but I feel like I know nothing! It is going to be a really humbling transfer and I am grateful for that because I am going to have the chance to learn to rely on the Lord 100% because I have NO IDEA what I am doing. But I know this is going to be a great transfer because, as Thomas S Monson loved to say, whom the Lord the Lord qualifies. Stay tuned folks!! And PLEASE PRAY FOR ME!! I need your pra

Week 26: Six months already!!

8. The 91 year old lady Hello family and friends! Six months ago tomorrow I entered the MTC and the only things I could say in Thai were hello and a few letters of the alphabet. Now, I can speak, read, and write a little bit in Thai! How fun is that! But more than that, I have learned so much about the gospel and I have had the privilege of helping others come unto Christ for these last 6 months. This is what happened this week... 1. Sister Janjarus left :( we went to the airport with her and got to meet her family who were also there to drop her off. We were sad to see her go but I know she will do great things in Temple Square in Salt Lake City. It is weird because now that she left I sleep on a bed again instead of the couch and it feels so foreign. 2. English class: we were teaching directions and we made a maze out of chairs and we paired them off and had them direct each other through the maze. It was so fun and hilarious to watch!  3. สมบโรน์: This is
