Week 5: "We should laminate that"

Hi everyone, another week has come and gone and what a week it has been! What has Sister Lahti been up to this week? Pretty much the same old thing but lets read about the highlights!!

1. SCRIPT
We have been learning script which is crazy hard! They don't have spaces between words in Thai and you have to break it up syllable to figure out what the tones are because tone is determined by syllable. THEN you can figure out the word (hopefully I know it, most likely do not)! Plus there are around 80 letters in the alphabet so it is always an adventure. It is really hard but I am super grateful for my teachers (shout out to Sister Hogge and Brother Tirrell!!!) who help me read and give me pep talks and wonderful advice! I feel like I am in kindergarten learning to read again, but it is very satisfying to read in Thai. OH I figured out what my name will be in Thai so I will attach a picture of what it looks like below! Also, a funny thing with the grammar: if you want to say you have 5 siblings, you say "I have siblings, 5 people." You have to have a classifier on everything! So fun.

2. Laminate Everything!!!
So they have a copy center here at the MTC and Sister Smith and I went to get some of our Thai books and other things laminated so the covers wouldn't fall off. Then we figured you can laminate AND shrink down just about anything! We shrunk and laminated some notes so we can carry them around and it is so fun, plus we use those notes a lot more often!
3. Other Fun Stuff
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Today all of the Thai Sisters dressed up as each other! We switched  dresses, shoes, watches, glasses, everything. We are even acting like each other! It is pretty funny. This week in Four Square we started something called Thai Square where we try to get 4 people going to Thailand in the square and it really ramped up the intensity! Good times.

This week I want to talk about patience. That is something I have really tried to work on this week because I need to be more patient with myself as I learn Thai and with everyone! I have learned that patience isn't a passive principle - we need to actively exercise patience! I am going to include links to some great talks I have read about patience below!
Well I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween! I know I will. I go to Thailand in 27 days!!! I can't wait to share my knowledge of Jesus Christ with people who have never heard of Him before. "Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life." (3rd Nephi 5:13)That is my purpose, to declare the word of Jesus Christ among HIS people that they might find happiness in this life and eternal life after we die! If you want more happiness, turn to God and He can give it to you. I PROMISE YOU THIS because He has done it for me. If you don't know how to turn to God, email me and I will let you know (it is kind of my job)!!

I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!
