Week 3: MTC > Disneyland
Great week in the MTC with plenty of highs and lows!!! Lots to say so just read the bold headings and look at pics if you don't feel like getting an insiders view on my life (I promise I won't judge I would probably do the same thing). Here we go......
1. MTC New Building Dedication!
As some of you may know, they recently built some new buildings here at the MTC and they are GORGEOUS!! Absolutely stunning. I will include some pics (which can't do it justice). I had the privilege of singing in a special choir during the dedication ceremony. We sang "Hark All Ye Nations" and it was such an amazing experience! President Eyring, Elder Oaks, Bonnie Oscarson, Joy Jones, and some other people were there so that was REALLY COOL! The spirit was so strong there and it was just another confirmation that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's church on the earth today and that being a missionary is the BEST THING EVER because I get to be a servant of the Lord! There is no higher privilege in life. Side note, "Hark All Ye Nations" is an amazing song and you should all listen to it here! Such powerful lyrics. And another side note, it has been stuck in everyone's heads for 5 days now...
2. Devotionals are AWESOME
Every Sunday and Tuesday night they have different speakers come and give a devotional to us! Sometimes they are apostles or other general authorities and sometimes they are other cool people like John Munoa (he produced the Bible Videos for the church which showcase the life of Jesus Christ in the scriptures which you should check out here because they are stunning, no matter what faith you are! Also he is working on the new Book of Mormon videos so keep your eyes peeled!) In the last week we had D. Todd Christofferson, an apostle, and Elaine S Dalton and her husband. Elaine S Dalton was a previous Young Women General President and I absolutely LOVE her! Click here to read my favorite talk by her! Devotionals are one of the coolest opportunities here at the MTC.
3. I have a cell phone....
This week I was asked to be a Sister Training Leader (STL) along with my companion, Sister Smith! STLs are kind of in charge of all of the sister missionaries in their zone. We do some trainings, are in charge of the Relief Society, and stuff like that. Mostly, we are asked to be a friend and an example to the girls around us. We have a cell phone and it is very exciting! We can do 3 things with it: charge it, get calls from the front desk, and call the front desk. Very exciting huh! We got our first call today while emailing and everyone seemed a little shocked because we haven't heard a phone ring in a while #justmissionarythings
4. Temple = the BEST
We went to the temple this morning!!! We get to go on our pdays (preparation days are on Tuesdays and they are the days during which we do our laundry, write home, and other things we normally wouldn't because we are so busy) and I got to hang out with Cheryl Esplin for a while which was SO COOL. I LOVE the temple! The peace you feel there is heavenly, and I feel closer to God there than just about anywhere else. If you want to learn more about LDS temples, click this link!
5. Four Square is not Square
So you know the saying "Be there or be square?" That is definitely the case with Four Square at the MTC. It is so much fun! Before the Thai sisters got here, I think it was kind of a low profile thing. But it is the sport to play now. We got a bunch of people to play it so they took down one of the volleyball nets and made a SECOND Four Square court so that when you get out in one square, you run over to the other one. It got so fast paced that I was sweating. SO FUN!! So advice to anyone preparing to serve a mission: practice your four square :)
6. THAI.
Remember how I said Thai isn't that bad last week? Well I stand by that. I just feel really slow at learning it. It can be frustrating sometimes but I know that it will come. I was not called to learn Thai. I was called by Jesus Christ to be one of His chosen servants to help the people of Thailand to come closer to Him. Learning Thai will help me fulfill that assignment, and Jesus Christ will help me learn Thai because I am going about His work. I just want to be fluent already, but I know that will come through plenty of faith and hard work! So stay tuned folks! I will speak Thai someday. In the meantime, I will continue to study and work like there is no tomorrow.
There is SO much more where that came from but I think that gives you a lil overview of what I am up to over here in the MTC. I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Thank you for your continued love, support, letters, and emails! I love to hear from you all! Have any questions, comments, or concerns about what I am doing as a missionary or anything else? Shoot me an email and I will see what I can do!
I LOVE YOU (BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY SO DO HEAVENLY FATHER AND JESUS CHRIST!)
