Week One - The MIssionary Training Center (MTC)

Hi everyone! This was my first week as a missionary and it has been amazing! I wish I could tell you everything but (1) that would be super boring, and (2) ain't nobody got time for that.

So as you know, I am now a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a missionary, my purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ, so I have the best job in the entire world! To start off my mission, I am the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah, where I will be learning Thai and more about the gospel for 9 weeks before I head off to Thailand. The MTC is right across from BYU where I go to school, and I can see where I lived last year from here!

After McKay dropped me off here (thanks McKay!!), I got my name tag and got to work.  I pretty much went straight to the classroom and started learning Thai! I don't know much still, but we have taught two lessons about the gospel of Jesus Christ to our investigator named Donut. (Yes, that is her name. Thai people have long names and they choose shorter nicknames and that is what she chose!) Our lessons with her are about 20-25 minutes long and entirely in Thai, which might seem crazy after studying the language for less than a week, but the best way to learn is to practice! Donut said I had good Thai during our first lesson, so that was kind of cool because I had been studying Thai for like 2 days at that point! We are learning romanized Thai right now, but in a few weeks we will move into the characters. We have spent a lot of time in the classroom studying Thai, and other than that we exercise, eat, serve, study the scriptures, and study the language! LOTS of studying. It is like school but BETTER (but I also really love school too).

This weekend was General Conference! General Conference is when the prophet, apostles, and other general authorities tell the world what the Lord wants us to hear. I really loved all of the talks about love, the Book of Mormon, and about how the Lord is in the details of our lives. So if you haven't heard or read conference yet, click the link below right now:

(did you click it yet? good. make sure you read/listen to at least one talk! now you can keep reading my email)

Also, the MTC is BEAUTIFUL. The new buildings are stunning, full of murals and pictures of all sorts of different things. The spirit of the Lord is sooo strong here. I LOVE IT! Being a missionary is a privilege. I don't think a year and a half is enough. I know that God called me on this mission to Thailand and that this is His work and He will guide me through it all. Have any questions about what I am doing here? Shoot me an email! Or shoot me and email anyways because I would love to hear from you :)

The Romanized Thai looks like letters, the actual Thai language is just a bunch of squiggles
